Martins Emeje (https://www.niprd.gov.ng/prof-martins-emeje-biography/) is a distinguished Professor of Drug Delivery and Nanomedicine. He holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy with distinction from ABU Zaria, a Master of Pharmacy and PhD from the University of Nigeria, where he also received the best PhD award, and was enlisted in UNN “Faces of Research Vi”. He had specialized post-doctoral training in molecular and cell biology and nanoscience at Tezpur University and National Chemical Laboratory respectively, in India. Emeje who is a graduate of project management from Walden University, USA, had earlier obtained a professional teaching qualification from ABU Zaria, where he equally graduated as the overall best graduating student with nine (9) prices and an automatic scholarship. Prof. Emeje has about 150 publications including media mentions, patents, trademarks and the first herbal trimodal supportive therapy to COVID-19 which received TETFund funding 2020. He is an examiner to universities in Nigeria, Ghana and India. He was an adjunct lecturer at University of Uyo for nine (9) years, and currently a postgraduate supervisor at NAU, Awka; FUT, Minna and DMU, UK. Prof. Emeje is a faculty at the ACEMFS, FUT Minna. He was the head of NIPRD’s spin-off company during which the first indigenous phytomedicine was successfully licensed to an indigenous pharmaceutical company; the product is now marketed as NICLOVIX®. Prof. Emeje is the principal recipient of a 5.88 billion Naira foreign grant for the establishment of the first nanomedicine centre in Nigeria. His work on herbal medicines has so far resulted in three major products; NANIP™ cough tincture, NiprimunePlus™, and SAABMAL™; a NAFDAC-listed herbal anti-malaria in the Nigerian market. His work in the application of nanotechnology in drug delivery won WHO/ANDI innovation award in 2011. Prof. Emeje is a contributor in the book, Making Medicines in Africa: The Political Economy of Industrializing for Local Health.
